OBITUARY of Jake H. HECKMAN

Jake H. Heckman who passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 76 years, was born on November 12, 1885, at Sterling, Illinois. In 1901, when 16 years of age, he came to WaKeeney for the summer to work on the farm owned by his father. He returned to Sterling, Illinois, but came back to live in WaKeeney, the following year. In 1908 , Mr. Heckman engaged in the produce business. Ten years later, in 1908, Mr. Heckman associated with the WaKeeney State Bank, & continued in the banking business for forty years, until his illness in 1958 curtailed his activity.

Mr. Heckman was married in November 1911, to Jane E. Wilson & to this union were born four sons; Robert W., Harold F., Carl D. [ãDougä], & John L. Heckman. Mr. Heckman was preceded in death by his son, Harold who passed away in 1956. In addition to his wife & three sons, he is survived by one ¸ brother, Herbert Kees. Mr. Heckman was a active leader in civic & church enterprises. He took special interest in young people & especially youth baseball. His other great love was the care & management of the Heckman Farm.

Services were Friday morning at 10 oâclock at the Hendricks chapel with Rev. Lawrence Thomas , Presbyterian minister, clergyman. Mrs. L. L. Hendr6icks played a program of organ selections for the music. Bearers were Frank Malinowsky, Phillip Malinowsky, Emanuel Flagler, Albert Krhut, Ernest Deines & Soloman Dietz. Burial was at the WaKeeney Cemetery. Submitted by Gayle M. Garrett
