OBITUARY of TOM HOLDEN
Tom Holden was born in Texaco, N. M., to Luther & Nina (Holden) Wilburn. He married Faith Strain, on May 4, 1937, at Castle Rock, Colorado. She died Jan. 21, 1987.Survivors include three sons: Larry, Tommy, & James, two daughters: Jackie Sweet & Doris Carnes: two brothers, Clyde Wilburn, & Lawrence Wilburn: three sisters: Frances Henderson, Maxine Rather & Lottie Murray: & 10 grandchildren, & 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Friday, March 20, 1987, at Hendericks Funeral Home, WaKeeney, Kansas, with the Rev.Duane K. Harms officiating. Burial was in WaKeeney Cemetery. Tom died March 16, 1987, at Trego-Lemke Memorial Hospital.
Tom Holden was a man of many talents & interest. He liked a challenge. Tom was a person of adventuresome spirit who was a innovator, on the growing edge of things. Some of the areas Tom pioneered in included: race car driving, stunt driving, helping to introduce midget race cars, building Dupont raceway in Denver; then being a race & show promoter & manager at many fairs & other events. Later he turned his attention to the oil drilling mud business, headquartered at McCracken, Kansas. He was also involved in oil leasing & drilling, up to the time of his death. Tom deeply respected the teachings of the Masonic organizations to which he belonged. Tom was a generous person. He was not one to give up; he liked new beginnings. Submitted by Gayle M. Garrett
