OBITUARY of Minnie Glass Kennedy

ELLIS - Minnie Glass Kennedy, 99, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2003, at Ellis Good Samaritan Center.

She was born Nov. 28, 1903, in Trego County to Samual and Ludwiga (Sauer) Glass. She attended Silver Lake country school and graduated from Ellis High School. She received her teaching certificate from Fort Hays Kansas State Normal School. She taught a year at South Glenco School and continued to teach school and attend summer school at Fort Hays, receiving a degree in 1952. She taught for 37 years in country schools in six different locations, retiring from the Oakley School District in 1968.

She married William F. Kennedy in August 1945 in Ellis. He died March 8, 1970. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Baptist Women and Domestic Art Club. She represented Ellis on the County Council and Area Agency.

She did volunteer tax work for many years and helped organize and was a charter member of the Ellis Meal Site. She helped charter the Ellis AARP.

She toured 42 states, Europe, the Caribbean Island and Canada with her sister in the mid-1980s.

Survivors include a sister, Lucille Keller; and two nephews, Gerald Bunker, and Robert Fulkerson.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wasinger Funeral Chapel, Ellis; burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to Ellis Nutrition Center or Ellis United Methodist Church.
