Lawrence E. Kroeger
~The Western Kansas World, WaKeeney, Trego County, Kansas May 23, 1991

Lawrence Kroeger, 74, died early Sunday morning, May 19, at Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born May 16, 1917 in Ellis County to Louis H. and Minnie (Armbruster) Kroeger. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at St. Johns Lutheran Church north of Ellis.

He married Marie Claycamp on July 25, 1942. Lawrence and Marie have one son, Ronald Kroeger of Wichita.

On May 1, 1964 he married Nadine (Burbach) Claycamp. They have two sons, Douglas Kroeger and Gary Kroeger, both of Salina.

He also shared his life with 4 step children, Patricia Schremmer, WaKeeney; Terry Claycamp, Hays; Randy Claycamp, Pratt; Lonny Claycamp, Hays; Jacquelyn Jordan, Newton. There are 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Lawrence was a true Òhandyman,Ó enjoying woodworking, auto mechanics and vehicle restoration, among other things. He spent much of his professional life in the construction business as a master carpenter, equally at home framing out a new home, remodeling a room, or finishing a fine cabinet. He was employed as a high school custodian for U.S.D. 208, delighting in visiting and joking with the students. He also drove the school activities bus during his employment with the school district. In 1978, Lawrence was presented with an Honorary Farmer's Degree from the TCHS, WaKeeney in appreciation for all of his assistance.

After his retirement, if he didn't have a project of his own going at home, he was busy helping family or friends with one of theirs.

Lawrence belonged to the Cedar Bluffers and Midweek Campers Associations, taking pride in helping other members with their campers or spending time in the out of doors. He held several offices in these organizations, and he and Nadine were currently Field Directors for the Nat'l Campers Association. He also enjoyed spending time with others at the Wakeeney Senior Citizens Center, serving as the Senior Citizen's bus driver for a while.

Lawrence is survived by three sisters and brothers: Freda Saunders, Dorothy Claycamp, and Tillie Claycamp, Henry and Ernie Kroeger, both and Curtis Kroeger. There are also two adopted brothers; Bill Armbruster, and Oscar Armbruster.

Funeral services were held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church on Wednesday, May 22, 1991 at 10:30 a.m. with Morell Funeral Home assisting. The family suggests memorials to the church.
