James Thomas Martin, oldest son of T. M. and Minnie Martin, was born January 4, 1900, at Holmesville, Nebraska and departed this life December 22, 1948 at his home in WaKeeney, Kansas, at the age of 48 years, 11 months and 18 days.

On August 6, 1939 he was united in marriage to Bertha Ehrichs. To this union one son, Marvin Lee, was born.

He grew to manhood in Colorado, moving on a farm west of WaKeeney in 1927. Jim, as he was known, had a kind and loving disposition. He loved his family and home and put them above all else. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

He was a member of the Methodist Church of WaKeeney. Also a member of all three branches of the I. O. O. F. Lodge, a past Grand and Captain and a member of the WaKeeney Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, John. He is survived by his wife, Bertha Martin, one son, Marvin Lee; two step children, Ross and Henrietta; his mother, Mrs. Minnie Martin, of Modesto, California; one brother, Charles, of Garden City; two sisters Mary Martin; Modesto, Calif. and Mrs. Anna Schwanbeck of WaKeeney; many other relatives and a host of friends. His memory will long be felt and live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

The funeral service, which was attended by a large number of friends from Trego and Gove Counties, was held on Sunday afternoon, at the Methodist Church in WaKeeney. The sermon was delivered by Rev. Paul Brooks, pastor, Burial was in the WaKeeney Cemetery.

Martin, Garden City; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Barnes, LaCrosse; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Tilton, Sharon Springs; Mr. and Mrs. John Sparks and Viola, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sparks and Jackie, of Hill City; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Burbach and Warren, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Austin of Collyer; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Wolf, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wolf and Charlotte, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wolf and family, Mr. and Mrs. Philip Wolf and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Turner, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Harvey and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Tilton of Quinter; Mr. and Mrs. Emery Ekey and Mrs. Mae Glendening of Codell and Mr. and Mrs. John Richards of Salina.
