Bernita McCOY
12-28-1944 — 02-20-2009

Bernita Grace McCoy was born December 28, 1944 to Barney Wilson and Erma Grace (McStay) McCoy at Hays, KS. She passed away Friday, February 20, 2009 in the Trego County Lemke Memorial Long Term Care at WaKeeney, KS. at the age, of 64.

Bernita was considered "handicapped" and always needed extra help, was unable to attend school or live what was considered. a normal life. She lived well past the teen years, which as all she was expected to survive with her health condition.

She lived her early childhood with her parents on a farm in southern Graham county. In 1951, they moved to WaKeeney. The time came when her parents could no long care for Bernita and in July of 1966, she moved to Bethphage Mission in Axtell, NE. She then moved to the Trego County Lemke Memorial Hospital Long Term Care facility in WaKeeney in 1983.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in WaKeeney. Bernita loved to listen to music and sing hymns and she developed a deep abiding faith and shared it with everyone. You could count on a smile and message from Bernita, even though she did not dwell on the pain she may have been experiencing.

Survivors include many cousins and a host of friends which includes her Long Term Care family.

Preceding her in death· were her parents; and an infant brother, Bernard John McCoy.

Bernita had a delightful sense of humor. She loved to tell everyone that she was the "real McCoy" and she proved to be an inspiration to all who knew her.

Services for Bernita will be held Thursday, February 26, 2009 at 2:30 P.M. in the Funeral Home at WaKeeney, With Reverend Glenn Krebs and Reverend Harold Demoret officiating. Interment was in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.
