OBITUARY of Mrs. A. B. Mumert

Mrs Mumert Passed Away. "Another one of the pioneer settlers of this part of Kansas has reached the end of the long trail and has been called home in the person of Mrs. A. B. Mumert. In her earlier life she was active and interested in her family and in the social affairs of the day but owing to the advance of age the last several years has been spent in practical retirement at the home of her children.

Sarah Pope-Mumert was born in Lincolnshire, England, May 1, 1837, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. F. Kline, in WaKeeny, Ks., at 6:30 o'clock in the morning of December 25, 1925 at the age of 88 years, 7 months, and 24 days. She came to the United States with her parents in 1853 and settled at Lyndon, Ill., at which place she was united in marriage with Alex B. Mumert on November 19,1854.

To them nine children were born, seven of whom are still living. The family came to Graham County in 1880 and located on a homestead. A few years later (1885) they moved to Trego County and located on the farm adjoining WaKeeny on the south. They made their home on the farm until it was necessary to quit the farm and move to town. Mr. Mumert died several years ago (1916) and the body of Mrs. Mumert was buried beside it in WaKeeny Cemetery Saturday afternoon, December 26.

The funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church by the Rev. Bethel Cook. She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. E. D. Neff, Mrs. W. A. Allen, and Mrs. H.F. Kline, all of this vicinity, and her sons, Edward, Will, Grant, and Frank and by the family of her son James, who died several years ago. The close friends of Mrs. Mumert among the earlier settlers of the vicinity with whom she was associated feel that a most excellent lady has come to her reward and extend sympathy to the sorrowing relatives.
