Glen LaRoy Riggs, 73

Glen LaRoy Riggs was born on November 14, 1936, in Hays, Kansas to Warren and Inez (Powers) Riggs. He passed away at his home in WaKeeney, Kansas on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at the age of 73.

He graduated from Trego Community High School with the class of 1954.

On June 2, 1954, Glen married Carolyn Flagler. Glen and Carolyn celebrated fifty years of marriage in 2004.

Glen was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

In addition to fishing, GlenÕs early interests included music. He was a talented vocalist, singing bass for the boyÕs quartet at Trego Community High School. He later sang solos for many local weddings and funerals. Glen served as a school board member for the South Downer country school and he was the Scoutmaster of the local Boy Scouts for a decade. He donated countless hours to the Kansas State Wildlife & Parks, and he served as President of the Cedar Bluff Lake Association. His love for nature and wildlife was reflected in his farming practices. As a true steward of the earth, he was recognized with an award for conservation practices and habitat development.

After years as a farmer and rancher, Glen turned his hobby of creating effective fishing lures into a lucrative business that he owned and operated until 2008. But he was never too busy to introduce a youngster Ð or a late-blooming adult Ð to the art of fishing. In addition to angling at the local lakes, Glen enjoyed trips with Carolyn, his family, and many friends to destinations such as Lake Texoma, Homer Alaska, Northern Colorado, and Baja Mexico. Generous in nature, he was a loving husband, dedicated father, gentle grandfather, and friend to many. Glen was an easily recognized fixture in WaKeeney, smoking his pipe while driving his old, brown pick-up with Sweet the Vizsla at his side.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, of the home; two sons, Matt Riggs and wife Iris and Douglas Riggs of; a granddaughter, Erin Riggs; a brother, Keith Riggs; sister, Wanda Bellairs and husband Duane.

Inurnment will be in the WaKeeney City Cemetery.
