Rex Lindsay SHEARER
06-11-1916 — 07-30-2009

Rex Lindsay Shearer was born June 11, 1916, in Bunker Hill, Kansas to Philip George and Faye (Lindsay) Shearer. He passed away July 30, 2009 at Trego Lemke Memorial Hospital in WaKeeney, KS at the age of 93.

Rex grew up in Bunker Hill and moved to WaKeeney in 1930, graduating from Trego Community High School in 1935. Following high school, Rex married Doris Wilson, and to this union one son, Lanny R. Shearer was born. Doris died in l939.

On February 21, 1942, Rex was united in marriage to Anne M. Kristof at the Presbyterian Church in WaKeeney. To this union three daughters were born, Peggy, Sherry, and Ruth.

Rex worked for Boeing in Wichita, Kansas from 1941 - 1945. Entering the army in 1945, he served in Germany and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post in Russell, KS and also a member of the American Legion Post # 197 in WaKeeney.

Rex was a farmer and rancher in Trego County most of his life. He was an active member in his church, served in various offices, and sang in the choir for 42 years. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating; sharing these passions with his children and grandchildren. Rex was devoted to his wife of 67 years. Some of Rex and Anne's happiest times were spent dancing and traveling. Many new long-term friendships were made while wintering at Victoria Palms Resort at Donna, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Anne, of the home; one son, Lanny R. Shearer; three daughters, Peggy Barnett and husband Jim, Sherry Galloway and husband Mike, and Ruth Wick and husband Robin; 12 grandchildren, Brett Shearer, Debbie Elam and husband John, Brad and Lindsay Barnett, John Galloway and wife Katie, Angela Mermis, Lewis Galloway and wife Jamie, Joel Mermis and wife Carrie, Philip Galloway, Jeffrey, Allison, and Grant Wick; six great-grandchildren, Mikiah Mermis, Will, Vivian and May Galloway, Carl Estep, and Elizabeth Compton. Preceding him in death were his parents and his sister, Phyllis Cannon.

He leaves behind an empty place no one can fill. His tender heart and "sense of humor" will remain in our memories forever.

Services for Rex were held Monday, August 3, 2009 in the First Presbyterian Church at WaKeeney with Pastor Nancy Glasgow officiating. Interment is in the Wakeeney Cemetery
