There is an obituary published for Newton in “The Olathe Mirror” the Thursday after he died. It is one half of the front page 4 columns top to bottom) and consists of two pictures, the complete biographical sketch from the “1874 Johnson County Land Atlas”, a Speech Newton gave upon the installation of a monument on his property commemorating the Santa Fe Trail. Some of the land on his property was used as the first night’s camp ground on the trail after departing from the start of the trail in Independence, MO. The photos are a photo of the above monument with a head portrait of Newton superimposed. The head portrait appears to be the same as the one form the “1902 Johnson County Land Atlas”. There are also a few paragraphs on survivors, etc. I suspect Newton also has an obituary in either the Kansas City (MO) TIMES or STAR newspapers. These likely appeared a day or two after his death. I took a quick look for obituaries for DR. E. H. Ainsworth, his wife Jane C, and Rose Jane Ainsworth but did not find anything in the “Olathe Mirror” newspaper. Due to the random placement and appearance of obituaries/death notices of that time, I may have missed them if they were published.

To see if the cemeteries, both Olathe and Spring Hill, have complete death dates, contact Linda Lewis, Johnson County KSGenWeb Cemetery Coordinator with a request. She has contacts at the cemeteries who can check the records. Her email is: webmaster@cottonhills.com or visit this page http://www.ksgenweb.org/johnson/cemetery/cemetery.html
