In 1863 my grandfather John Ullmer/John Ullman enlisted in the Army at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. He was 13 years old. His enlistment papers are signed by James M. Graham as his guardian. Supposedly, my grandfather was born in Germany, but lived at Hiawatha, KS when he enlisted. Following his discharge, he lived at Hiawatha, KS from 1865 to 1868. Who was James M. Graham.
