Please refer to 1870 U.S. Fed. Census for Saline Co., Elm Creek,KS; roll M5953_43=42, page 13 image 26

See there: Frank Vanhorn @33 (b 1837) in OH married to Mary @19, born 1851 Wisconsin and one child, Charles James Van Horn, b 1869 in CO. The parents would have married on either side of this child's birth date.

The mystery is that the father, Frank, disappears for six years and the family has always suspected that he did something to be placed in jail. KS is a very likely suspect as by US FED 1980 Mary is moving in Little Rock Arkansas with more children but husband not in residence.

They must get visits however as the children keep coming and they truly are Frank's.

Any ideas? This is a problem that will take a creative problem solver, or group of heads whose minds are happy 'outside the box' as it were.

Please help if you can. Thanks, all. Cassandra
