Mary,

I have some information on Thomas Keen. My grandmother was born in Tennessee, but after her mother died, she and her brothers and sisters were sent to live with other families. My grandmother was Nola Girdner, and she lived with Thomas and Mary Keene in Piedmont, Kansas from the time she was 13, until she was married. She was first sent to live with the Keenes in 1886, and was married in 1895.

Here is some information I found in some of my mother's things after she passed away:

"Mary Foulker was born in November 12, 1827 at Banbridge, Ohio. There she resided until the 14th of September, 1851, when she was married to Thomas Keene. Soon after which they removed to Booneville, Missouri. They lived there five years, then came to Linn County, Kansas in 1861. After a year's residence there, she moved with her children to Illinois, her husband having enlisted in the army while in Linn County. After 13 years residence in Illinois, they moved to Elk County, Kansas in 1879, where she has since lived. She united with the Methodist Church when she was fifteen years old, and has always manifested a Christian spirit. They had 4 (or 7?) children born to them, 3 of whom survive her -- one in Oklahoma, one in Idaho, and Mrs. Perkins in Elk County.

I would LOVE to communicate with you to find out more about the Keenes!

Here is your original Message: Looking for info on Thomas James Keen who resided at Union Center, Elk Co, KS in late 1800s, 1900, and 1910 (at age 81). He was born Ohio in 1829. Believe him to be the son of Huffman Keen, brother of my ggg grandfather, James Keen.
I have much info on the family of James Keen, and know that Thomas James Keen had sisters, one being Brunetta Keen who married a Corder. Need obituary, history book info, cemetery info, etc. Will gladly trade info with you.
