I have a copy of a property deed transfer that indicated that George Hogben (my GG grandfather) was deceased prior to the Nov. 1889 sale of his 160 acre homestead, and that his widow Mary, daughter Mary and daughter's husband Fred Phelps were the heirs. I would like to know when & where George died in Smith County. He was still alive on the 1885 census, so that puts the date between 1885 and 1889. Most likely 1889, as my great grandparents Fred Phelps and Mary Hogben were married June of that year.
