Searching for any information on George W SAVAGE of Chester Co PA born there in 1855. He and wife Julia HUGHLETT moved to Lawrence in 1877 after they married in 3/1876 in Reading. A brother-in-law and his wife, Dutton and Minerva SAVAGE LIGHTCAP, also moved to Lawrence. The men were machinists, worked for the Kansas Pacific Railroad, and founded the Douglas County Iron Works in 1882, bldg located of corner of New Hampshire and Pinckney Sts. George and Julia had a daughter Maud H SAVAGE. I do not have further info on this family. George and Minerva SAVAGE were children of my gr2grandmother Charlotte K SAVAGE of Pottstown PA.
Can anyone help me locate their date of death and cemetery info? Also, date of birth of Maud SAVAGE? Is there any info on the Douglas County Iron Works? Any old pictures of the site of the business? It was written about in Cutler's History of Kansas.
The LIGHTCAPs moved after a few years to Talladega AL where he became a successful dentist. I believe SAVAGEs stayed in Lawrence. In 1902 when their mother, Charlotte SAVAGE, died, the obit in PA mentioned a son, William G SAVAGE, and granddaughter, Maud, living in Lawrence. Julia SAVAGE must have died before then as she was not listed. Any help in finding an obit, cemetery, etc info about them would be appreciated.
