I am looking for information on W.C. WATKINS and his family. I have found his name on the Chautauqua Co. genweb page as early as 1855 and as late as 1883. In the history of Chautauqua Co. I found a paragraph where it said he may have been the earliest settler in the area of Elgin. It also said he was the first class leader of the first school in Elgin. What does that mean?
His wife's name was Sarah Sergner Ward and they had eight children. James Buchanan, David Franklin, John Abraham, William Douglas,Marion Alexander, Ezra Monroe, Letitia Jane and Laura Ellen WATKINS.
W.C. and Sarah died in Phoenix AZ. abt. 1890. Three of their sons died in Phoenix in the 1920s and 30s. The two girls lived in CA. and died in Los Angeles Co.
If there is anyone out there that knows anything more about this family please contact me. This is very exciting to have found them in Chautauqua Co. I have been looking for them in KS. for a long time but didn't know the County.
Any help would be appreciated in learning more about their life in KS.
