Some additions / corrections to Bessie Mae Hill's biography are warranted. She was born in June 1898 in Chetopa, and she was the daughter of Thomas Hill/Rosa Heaston, both of Chetopa. Thomas was born between 1866-1868. Rosa was born about 1875. It is believed that Roas's surname has evolved from Hiestand/Heistand/Heistend (unless the various writings of it have been inadvertently modified by various persons).
