In Wm. Cutler's 1883 "History of the State of Kansas," Part 4, Johnson County, mention is made that the "second house [built in Olathe, spring 1857] was built by Col. Clarkson and Jacob Thuma. It was a one-story frame building, 15x24,of cottonwood boards, and stood near the northeast corner of the public square." I am researching my ancestor Col. James J Clarkson, who was active in Kansas during that period, and was listed on 1857 voter lists for Johnson Co. Can anyone confirm that this house was built by James J. Clarkson? thank you. Nancy B.
