My Grandmother Bessie Mae Blaney (b. 1888, Kansas) is listed in the 1900 Census, Brown County, Kansas with Charles and Viola (Sherman) Blaney. She is listed as an adopted child. She was left by her mother Floy Frances Israel (b. 1863 Pa. & died 1929 Oakley, Logan Co., Ks). In the 1895 Census Floy was listed with the Fulton's in Brown Co. Kansas. She had already given Bessie up to the Blaney's. Floy went to Oakley, Logan Co., Ks to run a motel/hospital. The motel was owned by a man from California. The Blaney's never actually adopted Bessie, she was listed in Charles Blaney's will as Foster Child. I think that Bessie's father was John Walker Israel. But this is all I know about them. Bessie would not talk about her family, especially her real father. If anyone has any information on this family I would greatly appreciate it.
