Jane Hibbard married my g-g-grandfather Thomas Hiram Humphrey on 5 January 1845 in Erie County, Ohio. There were the parents of my g-grandfather, Edward Montgomery Humphrey (b. 1847), and his sister, Emma, and brother, Eben.
A letter was written in the mid 1900's by a one of my distant relatives to other distant relatives, all of whom grew up in the last part of the 1800's in Taylor County, Iowa. In the letter she mentioned Jane Hibbard's father. In the letter she indicates that the father of Jane Hibbard was a Leverett Hibbard, and he moved to Smith County,
Kansas in the 1870's, together with other of my distant kin (Chesley Barns, and Augustus Barnes).
There is a L. R. Hibbard who was one of the first elected county commissioners in Smith Co, KS, in 1872. A Leverett
Hibbard is buried in the Mead Cemetery, Pleasant Township, Smith Co, KS with his wife Mary J., and a couple of grandchildren.
If anyone in the Smith Co, KS area is doing genealogy on the Hibbard family, please let me know. The LDS and on-line genealogy pedigree charts do not list a Leverett or Mary J. Hibbard at all. Do you have any ideas as to this Leverett Hibbard is?
The letter is about these women's childhood recollections, and I tend to believe the information is correct. Much of the other information in the letter is valid.
Let me know what you think about the possibility of Leverett and the Smith Co, KS connection.
