Mary GATES b.1846 married J.H.LEWIS (Lew) JONES b.1840 in OH. He died in Mersnick, OK., sister of Jim and Will GATES. They had no children, but raised Della BROFFT (niece) in Oklahoma after living in Cowley county for many years.
Margaret Amanda GATES b.1860 in OH, married Henry BROFFT c1887; apparently divorced between 1893 and 1910; she remarried to Charles M. Lewis. In 1889 moved from Burden KS to 5 miles NW of Arkansas City, KS. She d.1920 in Arkansas City, KS. The children of Henry are:

Conrad is here in Kansas yet - he works at the carpenter trade - he makes lots of money - he has deeded himself a quarter section of land here - he talks of building himself a fine stone house on it this spring.

Will Gates had 160 acres but gave 80 to his father - he intends to build himself a house as soon as he will get time. Jim (Jim Gates who married Laura Johns) has rented a house down on Grouse Creek and is doing odd jobs that he can get. Conrad (Jones) is staying with them he having put Cony off to a place. Mary and he do not stand on very good terms with each other, he having behaved so badly on the road that they had a falling out. (Henry Brofft)
