Looking for parents or origin of John COX, born in Virginia (perhaps now West Virginia), 1809, probably grew up in Ohio (since his daughter Elizabeth in a census said her father was born in Ohio), bought public land west of Bloomington, Ill., in 1829, married Dorcas FOSTER in 1832, bought land between Cooksville and Colfax in 1850, married Rebecca HIGGS in 1855 (after Dorcas died in 1853), moved to Marshall County, Kansas before 1860, died there in 1865, buried in Morrison Cemetery, east of Frankfort.
Could be a brother of David COX, mentioned in Old Settlers of McLean County, Illinois:
David COX, b. 12 Jan 1811, near Circleville, Pickaway County, Ohio, to Benjamin COX and Philena DYE. Father came to McLean County (then Tazewell) in 1825. He died after returning to Ohio. Mother took children to the land their father had chosen, on the east side of Blooming Grove, in 1826. There were four sons, three daughters, and one nephew, John KIMLER.
