My name is John C. Askren (John Christian Askren), but most everyone just calls me Chris. My dad, now deceased, was Leon L. Askren, born 29September1908. Leon Askren practiced law in Atchison and also served as Judge. He spent time with a local boyhood friend, Johnny Mize, who also lived in Atchison. He was the only son of Paul Barnabas Askren (Barney), son of William Kirkpatrick Askren.
The only information that I have for William Kirkpatrick Askren is that his birthplace was in Ohio. My Great Grandfather William Kirkpatrick Askren was 43 yrs. of age at the time my grandfather was born.
My Grandfather, Paul Barnabas Askren was born November 23, 1885 in Netawaka, Kansas. He and my Grandmother, Esther (Johnson) Askren lived in Colby Kansas prior to moving to Atchison. He was employed by the Sims Wholesale Grocery Company. My Great Aunt, Lillian (Johnson) Priest, was married to Henry Priest, a local grocer in Atchison.

My Grandfather, Paul Barnabas Askren, had additional brothers and sisters. I am aware of the following: Oliver Kerrick Askren, a/k/a Oliver Louis Kerrick Askren and William W. Askren. Paul Barnabas Askren had some sisters still living at the time of his death. Callie Young (married name) of Holton, Kansas, Lillie Woodburn and Rose Foulke (married names), both of Topeka, Kansas. 2 additional sisters, Frances Dart of Madison, Kansas and Minnie Shockey of Atchison were already deceased.

My records show that William Kirkpatrick Askren, as I mentioned, came from Ohio. He married, (according to the certified birth certificate that I have on Paul Barnabas Askren) Mary Nancy Kerrick, who was from Indiana. By virture of William's age at the time my Grandfather Paul Barnabas Askren's date of birth, this would have made William's date of birth approximately 1842. Mary Nancy (Kerrick) Askren, my Great Grandmother was 37 at the time of Paul Barnabas Askren's birth. This would have made her date of birth approximately 1848.

I have located a Viloa Sanders. She is the daughter of Orville Askren, son of Oliver Kerrick Askren, brother of my Grandfather, Paul Barnabas Askren. She lives in Sherman, Texas. She has a sister, Ida Malone (married name), who would also be a daughter of Orville Askren. She lives in St. Joe, MO.
