I am researching the family of George W. Smith born in Bartholomew County, Indiana in 1837 and Rebecca Venard, sometimes spelled Vineyard, born in Illinois in 1847. This couple left Iowa after the census of 1870 and relocated to Doniphan County, Kansas by 1880. This father and his sons (Charley E., George W. and Payton A.)left Kansas for the Oklahoma Land Run of April 22, 1889, while still operating a farm in Kansas. They were traveling with other Union soldiers to establish a township in the Canadian County, Oklahoma Territory (Veteran's City). I am interested in identifying any additional family affiliated with the Smith/Venard family, as well as learning more about this colony. Will be happy to share information.
