Hello out there, I'm Brit from North of Norway. Genealogy has been a dear hobby for 5 years now. It's not easy to sit here in Norway trying to trace ancestors in the States, so I try this site. 3 Johnsen brothers with families from North of Norway immigrated to USA in different years, but all of them must have lived in Topeka/area. 1. Carl Andreas Johns. b. 1855 departed 1887 for Monroe, Wisconsin. His wife Marit b. 1860 - children Astrid b. 1883, Signe b. 1884 and Ingvald b. 1886 seem to travel 3 months later. This family moved some time later to Topeka. 2. Anton Eberg Johns. b. 1875 departed 1900 for Topeka to his elder brother, travelling alone. 3. Andreas Martin Johns. b. 1868, his wife Hilma b. 1872 - children Signe b. 1898 and Ingeborg b. 1900 departed 1901 for Topeka. All these persons were born in the old parish of Trondenes in North of Norway. They are all listed as passengers on steamships to the USA, but I only found Anton listed in the Ellis Island Registration. I have old photos which were taken in Topeka and sent to relatives in Norway. One of them was taken by photogr. Leouard in Topeka maybe around 1899-1900. This particular photo shows that Carl and Marit got 2 more children in the States. 2 others was taken by Snyder and A.D. Grigs, Topeka. However, I can't find any of these persons in "Topeka, Kansas 1912 City Directory" under Johnsen nor Johnson. Maybe they had moved or lived outside this particular directory - who knows? Can anyone out there help me searching these persons in sources which is available to you?
Any info concerning the challenge to find them and descendants would be appreciated. Please e-mail me: gb-fj@online.no Best regards from Brit.
