Joshua Lieurance is listed as a charter member of the Christian Church, which was organized in 1875 at Neighborville in Norton County. Neighborville was later called Calvert.

Lieurance burials in Norton Cemetery:
Netta A., born Dec 1879, died 19 Sep 1880, daughter of L. & J.
Janey A., born 1874, died Sept. 1880

L. is probably Lemuel Lieurance, who is only mentioned in "The History of the Early Settlement of Norton County Kansas" by F.M. Lockard. He sold his farm to a John Williams in 1886.

In the 1880 census he is indexed as Lemuel Liemance, in Center Township, Norton County, Kansas, born IL, age 36, father born PA, mother born NC. Also listed are wife Mary, born OH, age 36; son Albert, age 13 b. WI; daughter Almenta, age 11, b. WI ; daughter Almeda, age 9, b. WI; and son Ellis, age 8, born WI.

Looking at the actual census shows that Lemuel's occupation was farmer, and that Joshua was enumerated immediately after Lemuel!!

Joshua Lieurance, born PA, parents born PA, age 52, occupation farmer; with wife Mary, born England, parents born England, age 56; and step-daughter, Mary Johnson, born Iowa, father born KY, mother born England, age 18, with a mark in column 18, titled "idiotic"

Hope this helps,
Ardie
