John R. Jones and Margaret North and family arrived in Kansas 1871, settlling in Flora Twp, Dickinson Co, Kansas. Their children were born in Ohio, prior to their migration. James Ellis Jones (m. Ellen Gummow), Miles (m. Katy Mall), Harriet (m. Courtney), Maria "Jennie" (m. George Seely/Seeley), Amos (m. Henrietta Ziegler), Mary E. (m. McAparrin) and William R. Jones.

Cutler's history of Kansas tells the story of the family's windmill business in Abilene, c. 1882, under Biographical sketches of John R. Jones. Biograhical information also included in the 1893 Chapman Bros accounts.

The Manchester, Solomon, Abilene, and Enterprise areas are rich with family ties.
