My 5ggreat grandparents, Daniel and Susan Puffer Marshall, moved to Sumner Twp., Phillips, Kansas, about 1877 from Boonville, Oneida, New York. The Harrison, Griffin, Ambrose Clark, and Puffer families were among their friends who also migrated from New York. Some of the family members may have lived in smith County as well since Sumner Twp. borders Smith county. The Marshalls and Griffins are buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, also known as Stateline Cemetery. Daniel and Susan had the following children who came with them to Kansas: Daniel Lester, known as D. L. (marr. Emma Estella "Stella" Meeker from New York), Ella Roxanna Marshall (marr. John Allan Henderson from Ireland), and Wilbur Francis John Cobb Marshall (marr. Julia Elmina Brown, dau. of Charles Hadley and Julia Long Brown of Huntley, Neb.). D. L. and Stella moved to Montana and Wilbur and Julia (my 4ggrandparents) eventually moved with their family to Washington. The Hendersons stayed in the Kansas/Nebraska area. James and Amelia Cobb Griffin also came to the area. Amelia was half-sister to Susan Puffer Marshall. With that brief overview, here is my brick wall:
According to Daniel Marshall's obituary in 1887, he died at Nance and was born "near Cleveland, Ohio." His father was supposedly an Enos Marshall who was born in New York. He may have had a brother George. The parents died when Daniel was young, so he was supposed to have then been indentured to a Thomas Lincoln of Utica, New York. So far no documentation of this indenture has been found, although a copy once existed in a "tin box" that survived a Kansas fire. It's whereabouts are unknown at this time. When I looked at the courthouse records in the 1980s, there was a probate envelope for Daniel Marshall, but the contents were missing. I am trying to find proof of where he was born and who his parents were, including his mother.
I would love to correspond with any descendants of the Marshalls, Griffins, Harrisons, Hendersons, Clarks, and Puffers.
