Looking for information on this (there seem
to be several) Charles F. HAWLEY.
He was born in Vermont in 1809 and was married to Nancy W. Rountree (I'm related
to Nancy), born in 1818 in Mississippi, and
established their home in Thibodaux, LA after
1830. Four of their children - Joseph, Mary,
Minerva, and Charles - were born in the town.
Around 1851 the family moved to Louisville, KY. There Charles pursued his craft as a master foundryman. The US Census of 1860
records Hawley and his family - which by then included another two children, Willie, age 8 and Laura, age 7 living in Louisville.
Was looking for the life story of Charles and Nancy and their descendents. Came to a dead end in Louisville. But, recently an article
dated 1877 that read: Mr. Charles HAWLEY removed to Louisville some 25 years ago established a foundry in that city and became wealthy, but having invested his means liberally in the construction of some steamboats in 1861, which came South and were lost during the war, his wealth nearly all took wings and flew away. He died lately in Kansas. So - my search is on in Kansas for
descendents. I have found many Charles Hawleys in Kansas. Could one be his son?
I am also searching in Sumner county.
Any info. will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.
