Searching for information on Martin Sutherin and his son John. Martin was born ca 1808 in England, and John was christened 6 July 1841, Earsdon, Northumberland, England. I suspect Martin's wife Mary Gluholm Sutherin/Southern died before they came over to American in 1853. They went to Pennsylvania first, working coal mines, then came to Shawnee County, Kansas ca 1871-2. Shown there in the 1880 census, Martin living with his son John and wife Isabell (who I think was a Douglas) and children Isabell born July 1867 (who I think married Henry Shaffer); George W. born ca 1872; Annie born Mar 25, 1873 (married Ralph Zinn); Sarah/Sadie born June 1874; Martin born ca 1877; John born Jan 1880; and Margaret born March 1883.
