Reuben Lawlis [ 1824-1912], born in Russell County, KY, homesteaded north/east of Hill City, I believe, on Tindall Hill, in April, 1879. He had come from St.Joseph, MO, with his 3rd wife, Sarah Layman[1927-1897], and 5 of his 12 children, James Thomas, John William, Agnes Mercia, Katherine , and Matilda. Minnie Florence joined them after 1880.Reuben and Sarah are buried in the Hill City Cemetery.
Tom[1860-1927] married [1] Flora Jane Beringer and [2]Ida Eoline Garnett[1875-1946] , from Linn County, Iowa, she was Robert B. Garnett's cousin, and died in Hill City.
John[1865-abt 1955]went to Holdrege, NE.,married twice, and farmed there. His first wife, Sarah A.[?] went to Nampa, Idaho, where his children have remained.
Agnes 1868-1957] married William Gauthier and remained in Hill City.
Katherine[1869-1958]married [1]Taylor Clark and [2]Neil Allen Smith, and is buried in Burlington, CO.
Matilda[1872-?] married[1]Oliver Dick Brooks, and[2]? Lucy, and lived in Norton,KS.
Minnie Florence[1873-1952]married Clarence Orville Stinemetz and lived in Hill City.
I am Albert Thomas Lawlis[1903-1994] daughter, he was Tom's oldest son, and this part of the family lives in NE. I would very much like to hear , and exchange info with any of these families.
