I am hoping someone can help me find a geographic location in Kansas. I am quoting a portion from a lady's obituary; she died in 1950. The rest of her obit has been accurate, so I am wondering if Laycene has disappeared or the name was just very badly misspelled:

"Frances Bell [Baker Vermillion] Ingram was born in Butler, Mo., on April 4, 1857...and...crossed the plains from Laycene, Kan., to Wallowa, Ore., in 1882..."

She had two children born in Missouri in 1877 and 1880 so I assume she moved to Kansas between 1880 and 1882. I have not been able to find her on the 1880 census under the name Vermillion and I do not know her first husband's first name. Thus, I am trying to find out what county Laycene was in to check any records there.

If anyone has heard of Laycene and knows what county it was in, please let me know. Thank you!
