My grandfather, Alfred William McCallan (who also hauled hay for years and had his own company "McCallan Hay and Feed Co") was the first wrestler out of Doniphan county KS. Some years ago in the late 1960's, some thieves broke into his storage shed and stole some family photos and among them was his framed wrestling photo that was used for publicity purposes. He always claimed that he got Sonny Meyers started in Wrestling. He fought with guys like, Bob Geigel, Bulldog Bob Brown, and Thor Hagen. This was back before and also when Gust Karras was a promoter. Grandpa also wrestled on the carnival circuit as well. He started in the 40's and wrestled up until the early 60's. If anyone has any newspaper clippings or articles on my grandfather, including any fight promotion information, or even dates I would truly be grateful. He has passed on but I will never forget going to the old Auditorium in St Joseph Mo and watching the wrestling! He was really something and it was my grandpa who got me interested in our Family tree and Genealogy. Any info at all would be appreciated!
