Topic: Olaf and Inga Nelson
From: gin@osprey.net
Date: Wednesday, August 04, 1999 11:56 AM

I am looking for information on:

Olaf Nelson
Born: May 24, 1823
Place of Birth: Holje, Parish of Jemshog, Province of Blekinge, Sweden
Died: August 9, 1907
Place of Death: Savonburg, Allen Co. Kansas

Wife's name: Inga

Immigrated from Sweden in November 1853. Settled in Knoxville, Knox Co. Illinois. Moved to Springfield, Sangamon Co. Illinois. Then to Savonburg, Allen Co. Kansas in February of 1870.

I believe he is buried next to his wife in the Wannersburg Cemetary in Savonburg.

We discovered a Newspaper article referring to Inga's death in a Savonburg Trio-news Article from March 19, 1897. It says Mrs. Olaf Nelson died in her home Tuesday. Which would be March 16th, 1897. We have her birthdate as March 7, 1827.

My paternal Grandmother- Mildred Frances (Kelly) Griffin b.6-9-1912 d. 3-24-1980

She was the Daughter of- Frances Edna Boman b. 6-2-1892 Savonburg, Ks

Who was the Daughter of- Samuel Robert Boman b. 4-10-1865 Springfield, IL and Sarah Nelson b. 3-12-1867 Springfield, IL

Sarah Nelson is the daughter of Olaf and Inga Nelson. So Olaf and Inga Nelson were my Paternal Grandmother's Great-Grandparents.

Family legend states that Olaf was nephew to a King Gustav of Sweden and was disowned for marrying beneath himself. Supposedly to a maid in the king's palace.

It is possible that he may have come to America as early as 1842. No one is sure.

I would like to find a birth record or marriage record for Olaf and or Inga but haven't had any luck as I am really new at this genealogy stuff.
