Topic: HELMS - Allen County
From: Steve Burrows kcsteve@sprintmail.com
Date: Sunday, March 26, 2000 04:17 PM

Looking for information on 'Daniel HELMS', and his wife, Grace J. YEAGER.

Daniel HELMS was apparently born in Indiana around the year 1844. He came to Kansas sometime after the age of 14. He may have came with his brothers (Samuel & Isaac), where they joined 3 of their sisters (Nancy, Lucinda & Susan) and their husbands, who apparently had apparently previously moved to southeast Kansas. An older brother (Michael), and possibly younger brothers and sister, (John Henry, Martin D., and Catherine A.); [depending on when they came to Kansas, Martin and Catherine might not have been born yet.], apparently remained in Indiana. Daniel would have arrived in Kansas in 1873 or 1874. The 1850 and 1860 Indiana census shows Daniel, his father, and mother and what are assumed to be, all, his brothers and sisters at that time.

Daniel and his wife Grace, first lived in a simple one room house, located a mile south of the second house, that Daniel later built on the 80 acres (N. 1/2 of S. 1/4, of 16-25-21, in Marmaton Township, Allen County), 3 1/2 miles southwest of Bronson, Kansas. (It is now known as the Old George Broughton farm.)

Daniel and Grace are buried in the 'Old Elsmore Cemetery' in Allen Co, KS.

Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.

Steve

Topic: Deal
From: Sharon Mills mills@reliable-net.net

I'm writing an article for the Morgan Co (IN) History and Geneology Association on the family of William Deal and Susannah that went from Morgan Co Indiana to Texas, where their county went Confederate c 1860. They therefore went on to Allen Co KS. A son, Daniel Deal, survived the War but died of effects of a head wound in 1870 at Humboldt, Allen Co KS. His oldest son, Lafayette Deal, was placed with a guardian, Michael Kern, a German immigrant, and his wife Sarah. I'm trying to find out Sarah's maiden name, to see if she was related to the Deals in any way. Michael and Sarah were neighbors and may have just been friends to the Deals.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Still looking for info on my gggrandfather and any of his children (below is a copy of an obituary I received recently) I would love to hear from anyone related to these folks! some of these folks lived in Allen and Linn Couties... Moses Waddle was born in Bourbon Co. Kentucky, October 20 , 1828; moved from there to Illinois, was united in marriage to Sarah Dixon. To them eight children were born, three of whom have preceeded him to the grave, twin boys and Henrietta Moyer. He leaves a widow and five children to mourn his death_ Henry Waddle of Blue mound, Frank Waddle, Emma Meek and Mintae Leslie of Mapleton and Ida Buell of Zenia.

Mr Waddle came to Bourbon Co. Kansas in the fall of 1859 and took a homestead, on which he lived until his death. He enlisted in the Civil war in 1861 where he served as an honorable soldier. the Deceased was 81 years, 5 months and 25 days of age. (from obituary in Mapleton paper)
