Anna J Hastings, 87, died Tuesday, July 26, 1994, 16 Arolyn Heights Nursing Home in Chanute.

Hastings services

A Mass of Christian Burial for Anna Lucille Hastings, Humboldt, who died Tuesday at Arolyn Heights Nursing facility in Chanute, will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Humboldt. The Rev. Mike Maybrier will be the celebrant. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Fort Scott National Cemetery (Bourbon County), with the Rev. Steve Scheier officiating.

Rosary will be recited at the church before the Mass, at 9:30 a.m.

Mrs. Hastings was born Feb. 11, 19907, in Redlands, Calif., to Bruce and Matilda Hutter Phillips. As a small child she moved with her parents to Cherryvale. She was graduated from Cherryvale High School.

She married Alfred Leland Hastings on July 13, 1935, in Cherryvale. They moved to Humboldt in 1944.

Mrs. Hastings was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include four sisters, Rita K. Bauer of Humboldt, Helen A Schabel of Cherryvale, Mary Alice Duroy of De Moines, Iowa, and Dorothy Arnold, Chicago, Ill., and three brothers, Hugh Phillips of Hutchinson, James Phillips of Coffeyville and Gene Phillips of Cherryvale.

A brother, Carl Phillips, and a sister, Mary Jo Schierlman, are deceased.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church building fund. The may be left at Kunkel Funeral Chapel, which is in charge of arrangements.

Eldon C Yowell

Eldon C Yowell, 73, of Humboldt died this morning, July 27, 1994, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Kunkel Funeral Chapel in Humboldt.

Yowell services

Graveside services for Eldon C.B. Yowell, 73, of Humboldt, who died Wednesday at the Chanute hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Mount Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Kerry Gage will officiate. Military honors will be given by Veterans of Foreigh Wars Post No. 1654, Chanute.

Memorial contributions to the Leukemia Society may be left with Kunkel Funeral Chapel in Humboldt, which is incharge of arrangements.

The son of William Sylvester and Laura Ethel Gee Yowell, he was born Feb. 18, 1921 in Shell, Mo. He was graduated from Vilas High School, Vilas.

He was a veteran of World War II. He entered the U.S.Army on Aug. 12, 1942, at Fort Leavenworth and served in the 3rd Army, 586th Medical Ambulance Motor Company. He was in the invasion of Normandy and traveled into Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was discharged on Oct. 24, 1945.

He married Ruth L. LaSalle on Dec. 7, 1941, at Caney. After the war they moved to Chanute, where he was employed at Martin Tractor for a few years and then farmed until 1970. In 1971 they started in the hotel management business. They worked in Pinckneyville, Ill., and Arkansas City before moving to Ottawa, where they managed the Hallmark Best Western Motel. They retired in April 1989 and moved to Humboldt. During retirement, Mr. Yowell worked as a courier for the Humboldt National Bank.

He was a member of the Colfax Baptist Church, Colfax; VFW Lodge No. 803, Ottawa; and was a past member of the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce and the Cedarvale Trapshooting Club.

His hobbies were fishing, hunting and restoring his Model A John Deere Tractor.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of the home; three sons, Wayne L. Yowell of Wichita, Lyle D. Yowell of Olathe and Dale R. Yowell, Humboldt; a daughter, Patricia J. Yowell-Thompson, Kansas City, Mo.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Two brother and a half brother are deceased.

Obituary - MARY ANN FELT

Mary Ann Felt of Toronto, died Tuesday, July 11, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka at the age of 26.

She had been a student and was employed at Tri-Ko, Inc. at Osawatomie before her illness.

She was born Sept. 26, 1973, at Fort Leavenworth the daughter of Richard D. and Isabel G. Gill Felt.

She was graduated from Osawatomie High School in 1991 and had been attending Mid-America Nazarene College in Kansas City.

She was a member of the Nazerene Church in Osawatomie. She is survived by her maternal grandmother, Dorothy Shatto, of Eureka; a paternal grandmother, Betty L. Davis, Hinckley, Minn; her parents, Richard and Isabel Felt, Toronto; a brother, Richard D. II, Paola; and a 5-year old son, Timothy Adam Felt of Toronto.

A sister, Katherine J. Felt, died in 1992.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Toronto. Burial will be in Toronto Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Memorials to the Timothy Adam Felt education fund may be sent in care of the funeral home to P.O. Box 188, Yates Center, Kan. 66783.

Obituary - PAMELLA SUE PULLEY

Pamella Sue Pulley of Iola died Wednesday, July 12, at her home. She was 47.

She was born Jan. 14, 1953, at Iola, the daughter of Roscoe and Evelyn Thomas Hoddy. She attended LaHarpe Elementary School and Iola Junior High School and was graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1971.

On Aug. 1, 1975, she married Donald Pulley. She worked for 1 1/2 years for UpJohn Cleaning Agency in Kansas City. She then worked for 7 1/2 years for the poultry plant in Iola before staying home to care for her husband. He died in 1998.

She was a member of Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church in Iola. She is survived by two foster sons, Gerald C. Pulley Jr. of Dixon, Mo., and Ricky O. Pulley of Pittsburg, two foster daughters, Stephanie E. Jennings, Arkansas City, and LaTanya Pulley of Independence; three brothers, Everett Hoddy of Wichita, David Hoddy of Iola and Gerald Hoddy of Gas; two sisters, Velma Zink and Pauline Hawk of Spring Hill.

A sister, Freda Kincaid, and two brothers, Victor and Clinton Hoddy, died earlier. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church. The Rev. Johnetta Shelton will officiate. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery.

Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary - CECIL PENRY

Cecil G. Penry, 60, of Topeka, brother of Renee Settlemeyer of Neosho Falls and Shirley Blomquist of Iola, died Wednesday, July 12, at his home.

He is also survived by a daughter, Angel Lynn Penry of Topeka; a brother, Ivan of Hoisington; three additional sisters, Marilyn Scott, Topeka, Sharon Cubit Blomquist, Garnett and Betty Vawter, Soloman; and three grandchildren. He was born Feb. 26, 1940, the son of Claude "Shorty" and Alberta Smith Penry.

He was employed as a roofer.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Geneva Cemetery. The Rev. Tom Shaffer will officiate.

Penry will lie in state after 11 a.m. Saturday until service time at Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Colony.

Dorothy H. Cook of Iola died Sunday, Feb. 25, at her home at the age of 84.

She was born July 20, 1916, on the family farm near Humboldt to Johnie O. and Mary Blythe Tomlinson. She grew up at Humboldt and graduated from Humboldt High School.

She married James D. Murrow on Sept. 26, 1936, at Parsons. He died in 1978. She then married Albert H. Cook on July 11, 1979. He died in 1981.

She is survived by a son, Jim L. Murrow and his wife, Carol, of Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Mary Martin, and her husband, Don, of Iola and Diana Adams of Rogers, Ark.; two stepsons, Albert D. Cook of Adair, Ill., and Stanton Cook of Lewistown, Ill.; two stepdaughters, Marcia Papatyi of LaGrange, Ill., and Carolyn Fauble of Lewisville, Texas; a sister, Fern Cress, of Humboldt; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Two brothers and four sisters died earlier.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Wesley United Methodist Church. The Rev. John C. Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
