R. W. Hager

R. W. HAGER is a well known young business man of Seward, where he is manager of the Lindas Lumber Company. Mr. Hager has spent practically all his life in Kansas and is a native of the state.

He was born at Hays City September 30, 1885. His paternal ancestors came from Germany and were colonial settlers in Maryland. However, his father C. B. Hager, was born in Ohio in 1857. He grew up in his native state and in 1876 came to Kansas and after his marriage at Marion lived on a farm near Florence, but in 1882 established a home in the rural districts around Hays City. Later he entered the merchandise business at Cottonwood Falls in Chase County, and remained there the rest of his life. He died in April, 1906, while visiting at Beaumont, Texas. For many years he held the office of trustee of Falls Township in Chase County. He was a democrat. C. B. Hager married Ollie J. Kinkade, who was born in 1853, and is still living at Cottonwood Falls. R. W. Hager is the oldest of their children; Archie is a retired merchant at Emporia; Frank has been away from home for several years; Mary is the wife of Harry Hudson, a resident of Cottonwood Falls but owner of a lumber yard at Strong City; Richard is a truckman at Cottonwood Falls; Harry also lives in that town; and Clare, the youngest, is still in school.

Mr. R. W. Hager grew up at Cottonwood Falls and attended the public schools there. He left high school at the age of eighteen, did some farming, and then learned the carpenter's trade. He followed that work and business until September, 1916, when he removed from Cottonwood Falls and after a brief stay at Jetmore came to Seward on January 1, 1917. Since then he has been manager of the Lindas Lumber Company, the only lumber yard in the town and has done much to build up a large business for the firm.

Mr. Hager is an independent voter and a member of Seward Camp, Modern Woodmen of America. In 1904, at Council Grove, Kansas, he married Miss May Schneider, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Schneider, residents of Cottonwood Falls, where her father is a contractor. Mr. and Mrs. Hager have four children: Eudora, born January 9, 1906; Myrl, born in 1908; Charles, born in 1910; and Leslie, born in 1912.
