Boyd E. Phillips

Boyd E. Phillips, 73, died Feb 6, 1997, at St. Mary's Mercy Hospital, Enid, Okla.

He was born April 7, 1923, in southwestern Barber County, the son of Everett and Nancy (Septer) Phillips. He attended the Lake City school system and graduated from high school in 1941. An Alva resident, having lived at Corvallis, Ore., Nucla, Colo., Grove, Okla., and Bernice, Okla., he worked as a machinist, owning and operating the Phillips Machine Co. in Nucla until he retired in 1978.

He attended the United Methodist Church, was a 50 year member of the Norwood, Colo., Masonic Lodge No. 111, and a life member of the Scottish Rite consistory, Grand Junction, Colo., Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1362, Pratt. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

On April 5, 1947, he married Laurice Hiett at Vancouver, Wash. She died Dec 11, 1975. On Feb 23, 1982, he married Edna Mae Slack Powell at Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.

Other survivors include: two sons, Everett and Jay, both of Elko, Nevada; a daughter, Janice Markely, Oak Harbor, Washington; a stepson, Roger Powell, Kiowa; a stepdaughter, Kay Lynn Glass, Sturgeon, Missouri; a brother, Ivan, Pratt; a sister, Esther Freeman, Medicine Lodge; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral service were held Sunday, Feb 9, 1997, at Wharton Funeral Chapel, Alva, with the Rev. David S.H. Cressman presiding. Burial was in the Lake City Cemetery, Lake City, Kansas, with military graveside service by Pratt Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1362.

Memorials may be sent to the United Methodist Church at Alva or at Lake City in his memory.
