Evelyn R. Pierce

Evelyn R. Pierce, age 74, died Thursday, December 20, 2007 at her residence in Liberal, Kansas. She was born March 18, 1933 at Medicine Lodge, the daughter of Robert Clarke and Marjorie (Rossel) Simpson.

She was a 1952 graduate of Kinsley High School.

In 1951, she married Albert Claude Pierce at Medicine Lodge. He died November 8, 1990. She had formerly worked as the seamstress for many years for the menswear store in downtown Liberal. In earlier years, she worked for Beech Aircraft, Liberal, in the upholstery department and at Cross Manufacturing in Greensburg. She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Red Hat Society and the Prestige Club, all of Liberal. She was the Modern Woodmen Camp Secretary and Youth Leader.

She is survived by one son, Robert Pierce and wife Debbie of Satanta; 2 brothers, Richard Simpson and wife Joy of Medicine Lodge, Phillip Simpson, Medicine Lodge; two sisters, Phyllis Shelite and husband Ray of Pratt, Mary Rucker and husband David of Sharon; 11 grandchildren, Misty Wilson, Crystal Shane, Sandy Dubbs and husband Daniel, Albert Claude Pierce, III, Pamela Pierce, April Hoch and husband Steve, Deloris Pierce, Preston Pierce, Josh Zimmerman and wife Margarita, Michael Pierce and Shane Sandlian; and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and 1 son - Albert Claude Pierce, Jr. and several infant grandchildren. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at the First Christian Church, Liberal, with the Rev. Dr. Jack Russell presiding. Graveside service was at Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church for funding of youth projects in care of Kitch-Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd, Liberal, KS 67901.
