Lola (Roush) Hinz

Lola (Roush) Hinz was born November 10, 1914 near Fairview, Kansas, and died December 5, 2007, at Medicine Lodge, Kansas. She was residing in Medicine Lodge, having moved from her home in Longmont, CO, where she had lived since 1962. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Louis Albert Hinz, her parents, Emerson Reed and Rosa (Rebuck) Roush, her brothers Floyd and Bud, sisters Melba and Roxie.

Lola is survived by her children, Bob and Kate Hinz, Denver, CO, Roger and Gloria Hinz, Longmont, CO, Sue and Leon Wilber, Topeka, Kansas, Phil and Mary Lou Hinz, Medicine Lodge, KS; grandchildren, Truitt Hinz and wife Maxine, Denver, CO, Melanie Michael, Missoula, MT, Megan Gomez and husband Dan, Longmont, CO, Derek Hinz and wife Danielle, Longmont, CO, Steven Wilber and Chad Wilber, Oakland, CA, Trevor Hinz and wife Jennifer, Wichita, KS, and Mandi Pritchard and husband Jeff, Overland Park, KS; Nick Cissel of Denver, CO, Tanya Cissel of Spokane, WA; great-grandchildren: Brandon Hinz, Michael Moore and wife Jennifer, Kale, Seth and Ethan Michael, Spencer and Olivia Gomez, Sebastian and London Wilbert, Saffron and Lennon Hinz, Evie Hinz, Reese Pritchard; great-great-granddaughter Isabelle Moore, and several nieces and nephews.

Lola was a member of PEO for over 50 years and Longmont United Methodist Church for over 40 years.

Lola grew up at Fairview where she attended school, later graduating from high school in 1932. Lola and Louis left Horton, Kansas in 1950 and moved to Atwood, Kansas, where Louis worked for the REA, building electric lines in the rural areas of NW Kansas. A year later, the family moved to Bird City, Kansas, where Louis continued to work for the REA. In 1952, Louis became City Superintendent and Lola operated the Double L Cafe. In 1958, the family moved to St. Francis, Kansas, where Louis was Electrical Superintendent for the city and Lola worked for the newspaper. In 1962, they moved to Longmont, CO, where Lola began working as Secretary for Columbine Elementary School, and later worked in the School Superintendent’s office before retiring. She loved to read, work cross word puzzles, and was a great cook and seamstress.

Funeral service is on Monday, December 10, 2007 at Powhattan United Methodist Church with Reverend Priscilla Davies officiating. Interment will follow at Powhattan Cemetery. Arrangements by Larrison Mortuary of Medicine Lodge and Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha. If you would like to honor Lola’s memory, the family suggests gifts to the Powhattan United Methodist Church which may be sent in care of the Chapel Oaks, 124 S. 7th Street, Hiawatha, KS 66434.
