My Grandmother was Ruth Elizabeth Perkins Trull who was 3 at the time. My grandmother never spoke of her family so this is all I know about the Johnsons. Any help is very appreciated. Thank You

From: E. Crichton Singleton kite@kitesingleton.com
Date: Monday, April 15, 2002 10:03 PM

John Emmert arrived in Fort Scott sometime after 1863 with his wife, Louisa Burkhard, and at least two sons, John H. and Charles Eldridge, from Hagerstown, MD. We think he was in the lumber business.

John H. was employed in railroading in Kansas City from about 1885. Charles was in Kansas City briefly at that time, then operated sawmills across the Yellow Pine forest, returning to Kansas City in 1918.

Charles was my grandfather, died in 1946, leaving me his watch, inscribed "made for D. Praeger, Fort Scott, Kansas".

I am looking for any record of these Emmerts during their life in Fort Scott.

John Barrett died Nov. 25, 1909 while living in or around Mapleton, Timberhill township, Bourbon County, KS. The 1900 US census shows his occupation as Postmaster but I do not know which post office. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a veteran of the Civil War, having served in the 6th Regt. of Kansas Volunteer Cavalry.
