EL DORADO TIMES, 21 May 2000
Obituary of IRVING COOK
Irving Cook, 92, an El Dorado resident since oil boom days, died Sunday, May 21, 2000. Graveside services will be in the family plot in the Wichita Hebrew Cemetery.

He was born Dec. 3, 1907, in Chicago. He moved to El Dorado with his parents, Florence (Miller) Cook and Hyman W. Cook, in July 1918.

Cook attended El Dorado schools. He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1926, and from the University of Kansas, in 1930, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity.

In 1930, when the Cosmic Oil and Gas Co. was formed, Cook became its secretary and treasurer. When the company was later dissolved, he became secretary-treasurer for the Molk Petroleum Co., serving in that capacity until 1941.

In 1941, he assumed management of the family business, Cook Iron and Supply Co., which was in operation until the end of 1967, when the business was closed and its assets were disposed of.

Since that time, Cook enjoyed retirement, traveling, hunting, fishing and amateur radio. The "ham" radio hobby became a large part of his life. He was a member of the Flint Hills Amateur Radio Club. He was also a life member of the American Radio Relay League of his fraternity.

Cook never married and was the last surviving member of his family. He was preceded in death by his father in 1965 and his mother in 1968.

It is requested that no flowers be sent. Contributions in Cook's memory may be made to the Butler County Community College Endowment Association for scholarships.
