Obituary of LUTHER LEWIS
Luther Lewis, 83, of El Dorado, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, at 
Carlson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sunset Lawns Cemetery.

He was born Feb. 25, 1917 at Carl Junction, Mo., to Luther B. and Evelyn E. (Jones) Lewis. He came to Kansas with his parents in 1918, and attended schools in El Dorado.

He served his country in the United States Air Force during World War II. In November, 1952, he married Jewel Maxine Thomas in El Dorado. She survives.

As a hobby, he and his brother were licensed pilots and organized and were charter members of the Bluestem Flying Club located at the El Dorado Airport during the 1950s. As an enjoyable hobby, Luther and Maxine had a very large garden every year and sold produce to the El Dorado community. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Moose Lodge.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Gail Lewis of Emporia; daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Russell Carlton of Leon; brother, Elton Lewis of El Dorado; three sisters, Joan Harper of El Dorado, Arlene Hendricks of Bentonville, Ark. and Myrna Fair of Wichita; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial has been established for the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
