| Obituary of HELEN KATHERINE MARSHALL |
| Helen Katherine (Elerick) Marshall, 93, of
Leon, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at LakePoint Nursing Center in Augusta.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 4, at Leon United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Leon Cemetery. The casket will not be open. She was born May 31, 1906 at Galens, to Frank W. and Pearl (Davis) Elerick. She grew up in Augusta and had made her home in Leon since 1932. She was a teacher of Latin, Spanish and English. She taught at Leon High School from 1928 to 1933 and then at Lewis High School from 1933 to 1934. She married Wilbur W. Marshall on Dec. 27, 1934 at Augusta. He preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 1980. During World War II she lived in Hutchison. In 1946 she returned to Leon where she resumed teaching and taught in the Leon High School until 1970 when she retired. She was a member of Leon United Methodist Church, a charter member of Quest Club, a member of Chapter #362 Order of the Eastern Star, Susannah French Putney Chapter KSDAR, Butler County Retired Teachers, PEO Chapter AF in Augusta and the Kansas Federation Women's Club where she had served as a state president. She is survived by a sister, Frances Long of Littleton, Colo.; two nieces, Susan Long of Littleton and Marilee Long-Saxe of Estes Park, Colo.; a great-niece, Katherine Long of Littleton; and a great-nephew, Gareth Saxe of New York City. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials for the Leon United Methodist Church or B.A.S.E. Contributions may be sent in care of Carlson Funeral Home. |
