Chase County Weddings and Marriages

1863 - 2002

Sheppard & Robertson

The marriage of Miss Bessie Rose Robertson, of this city, and Mr. Lewis Melvin Sheppard, of Denver, Colorado, was quietly solemnized Tuesday morning, December 23, 1919, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Robertson. The service was read by Rev. H. B. Mayo, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, in the presence of the immediate family and a few close friends. Miss Agnes McCallum, a school mate of the bride, sang, "I Love You Truly."

Mrs. Sheppard, who is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Robertson, of this city, was born on Diamond creek in this county from which place they moved to Fox creek which remained their home until a few years ago when the family moved to this city.

She attended the grade schools on Diamond and Fox creeks and then entered Chase County High School but was compelled to withdraw during her Senior year on account of poor health. She afterwards attended Baker University, at Baldwin, for a short time.

She is well known and very popular among the young people of the county because of her pleasant smile and splendid personality and the sentiment of the community is that Mr. Sheppard has won a mighty fine wife.
