THE FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH

The First Baptist Church of Cottonwood Falls was started as a mission of the First Baptist Church of Florence, Kansas, in October 1951, at Diamond Springs, Kansas.

In October of the same year it was moved to Cottonwood Falls. Meetings were held at different locations until they built a church. When Florence could not support, the mission longer, the First Southern Baptist Church of Emporia voted to sponsor it.

In August 1956, Brother Truett Thompson was called to be the pastor. Under Thompson, the church membership grew to 44 charter members. In October, 1958 building lots were purchased, and in March 1960, ground breaking services were held. Dedication services were held on January 15, 1961. There were then 71 members, and that number has increased to 140 members. Other ministers who have filled the pulpit are Brother L.J. Yeager, Brother J.E. Hogue, and the present minister is Rev. Wayne Hett,1972.
