William Roy "Pat" Mushrush was born in Matfield Green, Chase, Kansas on September 22 1886. (The census and other records says 1896) He was the oldest son of Mark Patton and Martha Mosher Mushrush. Mark Patton Mushrush had come to Matfield Green from Indiana with his parents and sisters as a young boy. After a few years the family returned to Indiana but he stayed on in Matfield Green. He met and married Martha Mosher who had come to Matfield Green with her mother who married David Mercer. Seven years after William Roy was born they became the parents of a second son, Thomas Henry. When the boys were very young Martha became ill and the boys were care for by their father and their grandmother, Susan Mercer. Mark Patton Mushrush was a carpenter by trade.
"Pat" attended elementary school in Matfield Green and when he had completed the eighth grade he enrolled in Chase County High School in Cottonwood Falls. During his high school years he lived with the Clarence Baldwin family and worked in their dairy and delivered milk for his board and room. In the summers he returned to Matfield Green and worked for J C F Kirk on his farm.
After graduating from High school in 1914 he was employed for a time in the Cottonwood FAlls Post Office when L E Waddell was Post Master. Later he became bookkeeper for Ketcheraid Motors in Cottonwood Falls. He enlisted in the U S Navy and served 19 months during World War I. When he returned from service he was employed by Gregory Brothers Clothiers until be began work as a bookkeeper in the Exchange National Bank in Cottonwood Falls in September 1920.
On September 23 1923 he married Blanche Marian Smith, daughter of June B and Leona Steele Smith (see Smith Family history in Chase county History Vol I) They wer ehte parents of two children Lois June and Robert Roy.
Pat Mushrush became President of the Exchange National Bank in 1945, a position he held until succeeded by his son "Bob" in 1968. "Pat" continued as chairman of the Board of Directors of the bank even after his retirement from active employment in 1977. He still held that position at the time of his death on august 8, 1981.
Pat loved the Flint Hills area, particularly Chase County and it's people. He never lost interest in the young people of the community. His family was very important to him and he delighted in his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was truly a self made man and an inspiration to many.

Lois June married William J Cooper. They were the parents of two sons: Craig Allan, who married Sheila Jean Phipps, and have two daughters, Lisa Ann and Julie Ann, and David Russell who married Lori Susan Armagost. Lois June and William J Cooper were divorced. She later married James E Kelly.
Robert Roy married Oma Lou Frey and had two children; Barbara Kay, who married Rich Hanschu. They have two children Danelle and Brandon. Joseph Roy Mushrush married Connie Eilert and are the parents of Daniel Joseph Mushrush, born June 26 1984. (Note: David Russell and Lori Susan Armagost Cooper became the parents of Kristina Leigh on August 08 1984.)
The only Mark Mushrush listed on the United States 1880 Census is a child of 2 born in Illinois and his father, Charles Mushrush is age 26 born in Ohio and the Mother, Carra is age 23 born in Indiana. The index shows her as being born in Virginia but the actual census says Indiana. The Mushrush families in Indiana in 1880 included only three families. One family was from France and Jacob Mushrush who was 73 was born in Ohio. Charles states on the 1880 census that his father and mother were both born in Ohio.
Charles and Carra are in South West, Crawford, Illinois and Jacob Mushrush family is Hebron Porter, Indiana.
