Allen, Mary A.
Mary A. Allen, 67, of Council Grove, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at her home.
The daughter of Theodore and Velma Miller Litke, she was born Sept. 16, 1940, at Council Grove. She graduated from Council Grove High School in 1958.
She married Gary R. Allen on Sept. 27, 1986. She was previously married to Clarence “Pud” Sawyer.
She was employed by the Morris County Register of Deeds since 1980. She was a member of the Kansas Register of Deeds Association, the Morris County Republican Women’s Committee and the American Legion of Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Jon Sawyer of Council Grove; a daughter, Julie Whitney of Strong City; step-son, Chad Allen of Murrieta, Calif; step-daughter, Tammy Schmidt of Tonganoxie; sister, Donna Hayes of Council Grove; two brothers, Frank Litke of Council Grove and Jim Litke of Cave Springs, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Theodore William Litke, Jr., Laverne Allen Litke and her first husband.
A memorial service was held Thesday, March 11, at the Calvary Lutheran Church, with Pastor David Parks officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Morris County Relay for Life. To leave a special message for the family online, please visit
