Archer, William "Bill"

William "Bill" Archer, 73, died at Newman Regional Health Friday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm Wednesday in the First Baptist Church in Cottonwood Falls with Pastor Rich Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Bazaar Cemetery.

William Lee Archer was born July 30, 1928 in Chase County to Jackson LeRoy and Gertrude Elizabeth Selves Archer. He married Mary Glass Aug 29, 1954, in Burden.

Mr. Archer was a Section Foreman for the Middle Division of Santa Fe Railroad. He retired in 1986.

He was a member oft he First Baptist Church of Cottonwood Falls, the National Rifle Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars in Independence. He was a former member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way #2504. He also served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of the home; two sons, Thomas Archer, Cottonwood Falls, and Timothy Archer, Hays; two daughters, Debra Cain, Fayetteville, N.C., and Pamela Craney, Cottonwood Falls; two brothers, John Archer, Tucson, Ariz., and LeRoy Archer, Council Grove; two sisters, Betty Meyer, Topeka and Patsy Johnson, Matfield Green; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Archer, Jacob Archer and James Arche and one sister, Fern Moore. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church.
