Bailey, Leora Ellen

Leora Ellen Bailey, 96, of Emporia died Dec. 7, 2002, at the Emporia Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Bailey was a homemaker and also a bookkeeper-typist for the Singer Co. in Dodge City.

Leora Ellen Jordan, the daughter of Frank M. and Matti Frances Royse-Jordon, was born Nov 20, 1906 at Mount Hope. She married Harry G. Bailey on Jan. 1, 1927, at Minneola. He died July 17, 1979, at Emporia.

Mrs. Bailey was a Methodist. She was a member of Falls Chapter 25 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Cottonwood Falls. In OES, she was a worthy matron, a district aide and held various offices. She was a community leader of the Chase County 4-H and a member of the board of education for the Chase County school district.

She is survived by a son, Donny Bailey of Emporia; a sister, Irma Churchwood of Wichita; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A son, Norman Bailey; two brothers, Chester Jordan and Wayne Jordan; and three sisters, Fern Dilts, Edna Cochran and Mabel Greenstreet, died earlier.

The graveside service was Dec. 11, 2002, in Hillside Cemetery at Toledo. The Rev. James Darby of the First United Methodist Church conducted the service. There also was a service conducted by Falls Chapter 25, OES. Memorial contributions to the Salvation Army or Hand in Hand Hospice can be sent to Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, PO.
